When my husband, George, and I moved to Outer Mongolia 8 years ago, the truth is . . . I knew that some day if the Lord blessed us with children, I’d have to homeschool them. That’s right, I’d have to . . . in other words, be forced to, have no other choice but to homeschool our kids. That sums up my attitude toward homeschooling . . . back then, that is. I dreaded it. But here we are 8 years later with a beautiful 4 yr old daughter and sweet 3 yr old boy, and guess what? I am homeschooling them. And the truth is . . . I love it! It’s not this big scary daunting task that I thought it would be; rather, I have discovered that it’s a fun, exciting and very rewarding adventure. If you just rolled your eyes and you’re thinking, “Yeah right,” or maybe you’re scared like I was, then I hope this blog will offer some encouragement, ideas and insight . . . and if you’re thinking, “That is so true!”, then my desire is to share ideas and learn from your valuable experience. Welcome to the learning house . . . where everyone (especially me!) is learning.

i homeschooled 5 different children over about 20 some years, and the way it is now looks like a lot easier than when we started. Now there are computer programs to help with just about every subject. Everything we wanted to do on a unit had to be researched on our own and took a lot of time. But I always loved it, sometimes hated it, and usually was successful with God’s grace abundantly helping me.
Beveryly, I can’t imagine homeschooling before the information age . . . I use the internet regularly to find creative ways to make learning fun. Here in Mongolia, I don’t know what I’d do without the internet and the ability to “google” anything for information, videos, photos, activities, worksheets and more. Kudos to you and all those who had to do it ‘the hard way’ so-to-speak. But you’re right, internet or not, I need to rely on God more than anything else!

I, too, felt the Lord’s calling to homeschool before my first was born. Our first year was fantanstic but when I was pregnant with baby #3 during our second year of homeschooling I worried about how I’d manage a newborn and homeschool. Five kids later, God provided all the grace, wisdom, creativity, and Elmer’s Glue I’ve ever needed along the way. I’m sure our faithful and provident God will do the same for you. God Bless!
